In recent years, I’ve heard a teacher I admire suggest several times in interviews that George Washington may have been a “deist” and not necessarily a Christian. This, he claims, is based on the opinion of Washington’s Pastor, who made the original suggestion.
Loving the knowledge that our colonies and country, America, were founded by many men of Christian faith, I was disturbed by this news. So, I set out to learn for myself whether or not it was true.
First President, George Washington, led a prayer of dedication, marking out our infant nation as the Lord’s. How sad would it be to discover he actually did not trust Christ?
In my Kindle library, I have several volumes of material written by Washington, seven to be exact. Modern technology makes it very easy to search them for key words and phrases. So, I carefully hunted for all indications of faith and Christianity.
