Tomorrow, November 8, 2022, is a mid-election day in America. Many House, Senate, and Governor seats are on the ballets. Will you join me in prayer for America and for the people of God? Those who can, please fast one meal, two meals, 24 hours, whatever you are able.
This morning, I was reading The Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6. Let’s review, for I’m going to use it as a guide to pray for America in a minute:
After this manner therefore pray: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who have sinned against us. And lead us not into trials, but deliver us from evil: For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13
Immediately after this passage, Jesus spoke of fasting!
Also, when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, making themselves obvious with a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that others will notice they are fasting. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; That you appear not to men to fast, but to your Father in secret: and your Father, who sees in secret, shall reward you openly. Matthew 6:16-18
With these precious passages packed with wisdom in mind, let’s pray now a sort of “Lord’s Prayer” for our elections in America:
Our precious Father in Heaven, may Your name be called Holy, as You are perfect! Grow Your kingdom, accomplish Your will here in America, as it is always accomplished in Heaven. Provide us with all we need. Forgive us Your people our failures, the sins we have committed against Your heart and our fellow man, as we also forgive those who have sinned against us and Your nation. Please lead us away from more adversity; instead, deliver us from evil. Because You are the rightful Lord of this nation, the power is Yours, and the glory forever! Amen.
We at Faith and Fasting will be fasting between today and tomorrow, and I again encourage the people of faith, whoever is able, to join us for one meal or more. Mountains can move when the people of God purify themselves, fast and pray. All things are possible!
Finally, until today, I honestly never paid much attention to the full passage in 2 Chronicles 7 about praying for healing of a land. Notice the verse before it in the image just below. How pertinent to our land, to our world today, post pandemic. Oh, Lord, hear our prayer and heart’s cry as we perhaps begin to see the big picture and humble ourselves before You and truly seek Your face.
This kind only comes out by prayer and fasting. Mark 9:29
